Where to Stay in Cabo for a Three-Bedroom Christmas and New Year's

Medano Beach in Cabo San Lucas at dusk during the December holiday season, beach clubs lit along the sand with Land's End rocks in the distance

Short answer for a group of six to ten who want to be out most nights: book a three-bedroom resort residence and treat it as a base camp rather than a destination. Our 3BD Hacienda Encantada and 3BD Pueblo Bonito residences both sleep ten and sit inside full-service resorts, which is what you want when half the group is coming home at two in the morning and the other half wants coffee by the pool at eight. Both are in Cabo San Lucas, both have three bedrooms, and both are the kind of place you can leave empty for twelve hours a day without feeling you've wasted the rent.

The nightlife question is really a logistics question. Cabo's drinking happens in two clusters: the Medano Beach stretch of beach clubs, and the downtown and marina blocks where El Squid Roe has been running three floors of noise since the late eighties and Cabo Wabo sits a five-minute walk further along. The marina's golden zone is where you bar-hop without a plan. Nothing in that geography is far from anything else. What decides your week is not how many steps you are from a bar, it's whether someone is driving you home.

The two three-bedroom residences we'd actually put a holiday group in

3BD Hacienda Encantada: Ocean View, Luxury Resort sleeps ten across three bedrooms, which is unusual: most three-bedroom listings in this market top out at six or eight. That extra headroom matters at Christmas, when groups travel in odd shapes (a couple, their grown kids, somebody's partner who decided to come in November). It's a residence inside the resort, so you get a kitchen with cooking basics and a dishwasher and a community pool you don't have to maintain, plus the resort's own machinery around you.

3BD Pueblo Bonito: Ocean Views & Luxury Resort also sleeps ten, in a Mediterranean-style property that runs on hotel-style personal service. The practical difference between the two is mostly resort character rather than the apartment itself. Both give you a proper kitchen, which sounds dull until the morning of the thirty-first, when nobody wants to sit through a restaurant breakfast before a very long night.

A third name worth knowing: the beachfront house at Novaispania. It's four bedrooms and sleeps twelve, so it's over your brief on size, and the owner's own description is openly built around Christmas: ocean views, an open-plan living area, a hot tub. If your group is nine or ten and you'd rather have a house than a residence, this is the swap to ask about before you settle on three bedrooms. The bedroom count is a proxy for what you actually want, which is enough beds and enough shared floor.

What a $1,000 to $2,000 night buys over the holiday week

It buys you the lower-to-middle band of Cabo's luxury tier during the single most expensive week of the year, not the top of it. Peak-season villa rates here run from around a thousand dollars a night well past five thousand, and the Christmas-to-New-Year window is where owners set their ceiling. Your budget lands comfortably in range for a three-bedroom residence at a good resort. It will not stretch to a cliffside Pedregal villa over the same dates, and anyone telling you otherwise is quoting you a shoulder-season rate.

Two things to settle early, because they move the total more than the headline rate does. Holiday weeks usually carry minimum stays, and the number published on a listing is before taxes and fees. When you ask us for a quote for your exact dates, ask for the all-in figure in USD rather than the nightly one. We're a licensed travel agency and you book direct with us, so there's no third-party booking fee layered on top, which on a week at this price point is not a rounding error.

The amenity that decides your trip is a driver, not a plunge pool

Every group that comes to Cabo for the nightlife arrives with the same half-formed plan: we'll just get taxis. On the twenty-fourth and the thirty-first, in a town full of people doing exactly that, you won't love how that goes. The thing to arrange before you fly is private transportation, which our concierge team books alongside chef services, dining reservations and event planning. A dedicated concierge comes with every stay, and 24-hour concierge is on the amenity list at properties that carry it, so there is someone to call at one in the morning when the plan changes.

Resort residences add a second layer: transportation within the resort itself. 3BD Casa Buenavida, a three-bedroom apartment in the Quivira community, spells out what that looks like in practice. Its stay includes personal concierge service, transport within the Pueblo Bonito resorts inside Quivira, and a free shuttle down to Pueblo Bonito Rose in town and at the beach. It sleeps six rather than ten, and it has a hot tub and jacuzzi, which is the detail that makes it work for three couples rather than a ten-person group. If your party is six, put it on the list. If it's nine, it isn't your house.

Chef service is the other one worth booking, and not for the reason people assume. A chef dinner at the villa on the twenty-fourth or the thirtieth gives you one good night at home, which is what lets you do the other nights properly. Restaurant tables across the holiday week book out long before you arrive.

Reading the three-bedroom listings honestly

Three bedrooms in Cabo San Lucas covers a wide range of buildings, and the labels matter.

  • 3BD Hacienda Encantada and 3BD Pueblo Bonito: three bedrooms, sleeping ten each, with community pools and full kitchens. The widest-sleeping three-bedrooms we have in Cabo.
  • Villa Del Palmar: Plunge Pool, Ocean & Resort: a three-bedroom apartment sleeping eight, each master with its own bath, on a high floor with ocean or pool views, inside a full-service resort.
  • 3BD Villa La Estancia: Luxury Resort & Oceanview: a three-bedroom condo sleeping eight on Medano Beach, which is the beach-club corridor itself. Its status in our system needs revalidating before we can offer it, so ask us about it specifically rather than assuming it's live.
  • 3BD Casa Buenavida: three bedrooms, sleeping six, in Quivira, with a jacuzzi and the resort shuttle arrangement described above.

Sleeping capacity in this market is often achieved with sofa beds in the living room. That's fine for a ski-style group of friends and less fine for three couples who each want a door. Tell us the shape of your party, not just the number, and we'll tell you which of these actually works.

Where you sleep against where you'll be at midnight

Medano Beach is the centre of gravity on the thirty-first. The countdown happens along that stretch of sand, visible from the beach clubs that line it, and the celebration has moved toward a drone show over the water in place of the old fireworks barges, so confirm the format for your year before you promise anyone anything. Mango Deck is the loud end of Medano, with games run off a stage on the sand. Billygan's is a notch calmer, with a pool and a swim-up bar and a day-pass model that comes with food and drink credit. The Office on the Beach does margaritas with your feet in the sand and no cover at the door. Sur Beach House at the Bahia is the quieter, better-dressed version, and Bar Esquina at the same hotel has live music every night of the week. Tabasco sits furthest from the marina at the calm end of the beach. Funky Geisha on Medano runs a ticketed New Year's dinner from half past nine with live performances and a DJ.

The marina boardwalk in Cabo San Lucas lit up at night in late December, bars and restaurants along the waterfront

Downtown is a separate cluster, four walkable blocks of bars and clubs, with El Squid Roe and the Giggling Marlin on Marina Boulevard among the long-running names. You can do both clusters in one night. You can't walk between a resort residence and either of them, which is the real argument for sorting your transport before the plane lands.

If anyone in your group wants a day in San José del Cabo, the drive along the corridor takes about half an hour. From the airport into town, allow a little more in holiday-week traffic, especially on an afternoon arrival.

What to ask us when you write

Give us your exact dates with the year, your head count, and how many of those need a real bedroom rather than a pull-out. Then ask for:

  • Live availability for those nights. Holiday inventory in Cabo moves months ahead, and nothing on this page is a promise that a given home is open.
  • The total in USD including taxes, fees, deposit and any minimum-stay requirement, not the nightly figure.
  • Which services the specific home includes: concierge, daily service, resort transport, shuttle. These vary property by property and are not a portfolio-wide guarantee.
  • Private transport for the twenty-fourth and the thirty-first, plus a chef night if you want one. Both get scarce.

Book direct and there's no third-party fee. More usefully, you get a person who knows which of these three-bedrooms suits a group that intends to be out late, which is not always the one with the best photographs.
