Bucerías for four to ten: which home to take

Beach at Bucerías, Nayarit, looking south across Banderas Bay toward the Sierra Madre on a clear morning

If there are six or eight of you and you want one roof, start with the 2 BDRM Grand Luxxe Master suite, which sleeps eight across two bedrooms and has a plunge pool on its terrace. If your group runs to ten, take the Grand Luxxe 3BR Loft Residence, a two-floor layout with two living rooms, or the 3BD Nuevo Vallarta: Ocean Views, which has the same bed count and a dipping pool and day bed on the terrace. Everything else on this page is about which of those is right for the particular trip you are planning.

One thing to get straight first, because it shapes the whole decision: our Bucerías homes are residences and suites inside the Vidanta complex on the Nuevo Vallarta side of Banderas Bay, not stand-alone houses on a cobbled street in town. That is a real difference. You are a short drive from the Bucerías Golden Zone, which sits just southeast of the town centre and is where the restaurants and galleries are, and roughly twenty minutes from the Puerto Vallarta airport. But you are not walking home from dinner in town.

Eight people, two bedrooms: the maths that surprises groups

The most useful thing in our Bucerías data is that bedroom count and sleeping capacity come apart dramatically. Two of our two-bedroom units sleep eight. One sleeps five. That spread is not a rounding error, it is the difference between a trip that works and one where somebody is on a sofa they did not agree to.

The 2 BDRM Grand Luxxe Master suite is the one that carries eight: two kings, or a king and two doubles, with two and a half bathrooms, two Jacuzzi tubs, a sleeper sofa in the living area and three TVs. There is a gourmet kitchen, a dining room and a terrace with a private plunge pool. For four couples who like each other but want their own bathroom situation, this is the home to beat.

The 2BD Grand Bliss is the opposite proposition. Two bedrooms, sleeps five, with a plunge pool and chaise lounges on the balcony. Take it when you are a family of four or five and you want space rather than bodies: cooking basics, oven, stove, dishwasher, washer and dryer, and a kitchen you will actually use on the third morning when nobody wants to go out for breakfast.

Two more two-bedroom options sit in between. The 2 BDRM Grand Luxxe Master suite at six and the 2BD Grand Luxxe, also six, are the right size for a group of friends travelling as three couples. The 2BD Mayan Palace suite takes seven.

When there are ten of you

Three homes in Bucerías take ten, and they are not interchangeable.

  • Grand Luxxe 3BR Loft Residence is 5,190 square feet over two floors: kitchen, breakfast bar, a proper laundry room, a dining table, and two living rooms with sleeper sofas. Three and a half bathrooms, two of them with Jacuzzi tubs. Two living rooms is the detail that matters with ten people in a house, because it means the group can split without anyone retreating to a bedroom. There is a second loft residence of the same configuration, useful if your dates are tight.
  • 3BD Nuevo Vallarta: Ocean Views has the same bed count, two kings and two doubles, with a terrace laid out for sitting rather than circulating: dipping pool, dining table, day bed, two armchairs.
  • 4BD Nuevo Vallarta: Luxury Resort w/ Ocean View also sleeps ten, but spreads them across four bedrooms. For two families travelling together, that fourth bedroom is worth more than square footage.

Above that, the 4BD Grand Luxxe Vidanta Resort sleeps twelve, which stops being a small group and starts being a reunion.

The four-person case for a one-bedroom

Four adults in one bedroom sounds wrong until you see the layout. The Grand Luxxe one-bedroom loft residence runs over two floors: downstairs is the gourmet kitchen, dining room, living room and a bathroom with shower, with a private terrace off it that has its own small pool and balcony. Upstairs is the master with a king and a bathroom with a Jacuzzi. It sleeps four and lists a hot tub as well as the outdoor pool.

So it works for two couples who are out most of the day and want a serious pool terrace rather than a second bedroom, or for a family with two small children. Morning coffee and tea service is set up on both floors. If anyone in your four needs a door that closes, go to a two-bedroom instead, and the Grand Bliss at five gives you a bedroom to spare.

Everyone cooks here, which is the point

Every Bucerías home in our portfolio has a full kitchen and in-unit laundry: washer, dryer, dishwasher, fridge, microwave, coffee maker. That is not a small thing for a group. A week with six people generates an absurd amount of swimwear, and the alternative is paying by the kilo.

The kitchens are not all equal, though. The two-bedroom Grand Bliss, the three-bedroom ocean-view condo and both Master suites list an oven and cooking basics, which means you can actually cook rather than reheat. If someone in the group is planning to do a real dinner for everyone, those are your kitchens. Every home also lists a dedicated workspace, free parking and wifi, which quietly solves the problem of the one person on the trip who has a Tuesday call.

What to eat, and the one night to plan around

Dinner is the reason to leave. Bucerías eats on the beach: Karen's does a daily happy hour in the late afternoon and is the long-standing favourite on the sand, Mezzogiorno is the Italian place people book for a last night, and Mar y Sol and The Fat Boy both cook the local seafood straight. For ceviche and tostadas, Lamara. For breakfast out, Luna Luna. And for fish tacos, El Rinconcito de Ensenada, about a block back from the beach, which is the sort of place where the queue is the review.

The one date to build a week around is Thursday. From November into April, the galleries in town open in the evening for the Bucerías Art Walk, and it is the night the place is busiest in the good way. Beyond town, Playa Manzanilla just south of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle is the calm-water beach for families, Playa Destiladeras has bars along it, and Sayulita is about twenty minutes up the road if you want a day of surf shops and crowds.

How to decide, in the order that matters

Count your sleeping bodies before you count bedrooms. Then ask three questions of the shortlist.

  • Do you need separation or space? Separation means bedrooms, so the four-bedroom that sleeps ten beats the three-bedroom that sleeps ten. Space means the loft residence with two living rooms.
  • Will you cook? Pick a home that lists an oven and cooking basics, not just a kitchen.
  • Who is paying for what? Bathroom count decides this more often than people expect. Eight guests across two and a half bathrooms works for friends; two families usually want the three-and-a-half-bathroom layouts.

Then talk to us rather than guessing from a calendar. Every stay comes with a concierge, and booking direct means no third-party fees. One procedural point worth knowing: a reservation on these homes is not confirmed until your host emails the confirmation to you directly, so get that email in hand before you buy flights.
