Two-bedroom stays in Playa del Carmen for cenote weeks

Limestone cenote pool surrounded by jungle in the cenote corridor south of Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo

If your week is built around Xcaret, Rio Secreto and a run of cenotes down the highway toward Tulum, two of our two-bedroom condos in Playa del Carmen deserve the first look: 2BD Grand Bliss Vidanta Resort, Riviera Maya, which sleeps eight and comes with free parking and a dishwasher, and 2BD Master Suite Beachfront Royal Hacienda Cancun, a Royal Haciendas master family suite in Playa del Carmen with a private terrace and Jacuzzi, sleeping seven. Both are condos rather than jungle lodges, and that is the point: adventure days are long, muddy and loud, and what you want afterwards is a real kitchen, a washer, and somewhere to park the rental car without negotiating for it.

Park days start with the car, not the room

Everything on an eco-adventure list here sits along Highway 307, the spine running south from Cancun through Playa del Carmen to Tulum, and almost all of it is a morning drive rather than an expedition. Xcaret and Xplor share a site roughly fifteen to twenty minutes south of town, close enough that you can make an early entry without a pre-dawn alarm. Rio Secreto is signposted about twenty minutes down the same road. Selvatica, the zipline and ATV park, sits inland near Puerto Morelos, around half an hour north, though if you book a shuttle rather than drive, expect the van to collect and transfer and generally take the scenic view of time.

Xel-Há is the longer one: figure most of an hour south, which makes it a full day rather than a half. The cenote corridor begins about a quarter of an hour below Playa and runs the sixty kilometres down to Tulum, with the popular ones landing in a twenty to forty minute band. Cenote Azul, Jardín del Edén and Cristalino sit shoulder to shoulder near Puerto Aventuras, about twenty-five minutes out, and you can swim all three in a day without moving the car more than a few hundred metres. Dos Ojos runs closer to fifty minutes. Carwash is about forty, the last part on dirt. The Pit is deeper in, around three quarters of an hour.

This is why free parking matters more than it sounds. A car is how you do this trip, and both of the two-bedrooms below are listed with it.

Eight people, two bedrooms: how the Grand Bliss handles it

The 2BD Grand Bliss Vidanta Resort, Riviera Maya is listed as a two-bedroom condo sleeping eight, with four beds and two bathrooms, which is the highest occupancy of any two-bedroom we hold in Playa. Two families splitting it get a kitchen with a stove, dishwasher and microwave, a washer and dryer, a garden, an outdoor pool and a community pool, and toys in the unit. That last line in the listing is not decoration. Families who are doing Xplor one day and a cenote the next need somewhere the children will happily lose an hour while the adults do nothing at all.

Eight in two bedrooms works when you've arranged it deliberately: two couples with kids, or a group of friends who don't mind sharing. Eight adults who all want a door that closes should be looking at three bedrooms instead, and we have several of those in the same resort complex, including 3BD Grand Luxxe Vidanta Resort, Riviera Maya, which also sleeps eight but spreads it across three bedrooms and three bathrooms.

The Grand Bliss description leans on the Yucatecan jungle setting and the resort's beach club, pools and Kids Club, and on the Cirque du Soleil JOYÀ theatre on site. What applies to your particular booking, in terms of access and dining, is worth confirming with us when you ask about dates, because resort privileges vary by unit and by season.

The one with the Jacuzzi on the terrace

After a day on a zipline or scrambling through Rio Secreto, a hot tub does more for you than another pool. 2BD Master Suite Beachfront Royal Hacienda Cancun is a Royal Haciendas master family suite in Playa del Carmen with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a private terrace with a Jacuzzi and ocean views, sleeping seven. It's the one I'd point a group of friends toward, or a family where the adults want somewhere to sit at nine in the evening that isn't the sofa.

Our other Playa two-bedroom with a jacuzzi listed is the 2BD Mayan Palace Resort at Vidanta Riviera Maya, a condo sleeping seven across three beds, with a hot tub, an oven and stove, a dishwasher, washer and dryer, garden and outdoor pool, and free parking. Mayan Palace's own description points to the Jack Nicklaus golf course, the spas and the gym, which is a different kind of week from ziplining, though plenty of groups split the difference: cenotes on Tuesday, golf on Wednesday.

What a condo gives you that a hotel room won't

Three things decide an adventure week, and all three are kitchen-and-laundry questions rather than view questions.

  • Breakfast before you leave. Park gates open early and the queue grows all morning. A kitchen with a stove, a fridge and a coffee maker means you eat at six-thirty and go, instead of waiting for a buffet. The Grand Bliss, Mayan Palace and Royal Haciendas suites are all listed with cooking basics, dishes and a dishwasher.
  • Laundry. Rio Secreto and the cenotes soak everything you own, and swimsuits don't dry on a balcony in December as fast as you'd like. A washer and dryer in the unit, listed at the Grand Bliss, the Mayan Palace condo and the Royal Haciendas suite, is the difference between packing seven outfits and packing three.
  • Parking. Grand Bliss and Mayan Palace are both listed with free parking. If you're driving yourself to Xel-Há or down to Dos Ojos, that's one less daily transaction.

On drinking water: we list filtered or purified water as an amenity across the portfolio, and whether it's in your specific unit is worth asking when you enquire. Sunscreen is the other one. Xcaret's parks restrict what you can wear in the water, so buy the biodegradable sort before you go or at the gate.

December 1 to 8, and what to settle before you book

That first week of December is the front edge of winter high season, which means two practical things. Availability on two-bedrooms moves fast, and rates sit above what you'd pay in September. Our audited property pages have shown nightly rates from around $400 to $2,200 before taxes and fees, with sample multi-night stays running from roughly $2,000 to $10,600 depending on the home and the dates, so a two-bedroom for eight nights in early December is a real conversation rather than a published number. Ask us for the total on your exact dates and we'll give you the figure including taxes, fees and any minimum stay, and we book direct without third-party fees.

Four things worth settling in the same message:

  • Whether the unit you want is open for December 1 to 8, and what the minimum stay is that week.
  • Bed configuration. Sleeping eight in two bedrooms depends entirely on who's sharing what.
  • Which resort facilities, beach club, pools, Kids Club, spa, golf, apply to your specific unit and dates.
  • Whether you want us to arrange airport transfers or private transportation for park days. Every stay comes with a dedicated concierge, and transport, a private chef, dining and event planning can all be arranged separately from the rental.

One scheduling note from watching groups do this: don't stack Xplor and a cenote day back to back. Put the swimming day after the harness day, and keep the long drive to Xel-Há for a morning when nobody has to be anywhere by eight.
